Space is the Place (2024)

Space is the Place

A book on African port cities’ relationship to mythology. From ports as sites of encounter to ports as portals. From the myths of the past to contemplating the myths of the future, ‘Space is the place’ presents spatial and speculative reflections from Tangier, Safi, Tunis, Durban, Alexandria, Port Louis and Hanoï on port realities.

Questioning the schizophrenic features of urban african realities that are both optimistic and fatalistic, the book enquire into a third movement that, by redefining its markers, generates a reality of the interstitial and the potential:                                 an ecology of possibilisation in port cities.

As an extension of the Art Explora Festival organized in Tangier and Rabat in September and October 2024, this publication presents the reflections of a selection of contributors invited to explore the theme of myth and its various manifestations through specific narratives and contexts, beyond Mediterranean borders.
